December 30 - Another research proved the fact that Chinese blowouts of CO2 into the atmosphere which occur as a result of using bituminous coal as a fuel contribute to general warming of the climate on the Earth. The researchers Surabi Menon and James Hansen from the space centre NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies base their statement on the results of computer modelling of the corresponding processes based on the information received in China. The research has been made by the American scientists, with the accent on Chinese blowouts, as the government of Bush announced its refusal to ratify the Kyoto agreement providing for reduction of CO2 blowouts into the atmosphere.

December 28 - Up-to-date system of air- cleaning and air-conditioning can remove from the premises even influenza virus and other pathogenic organisms. Thanks to using of technology of plasma cleansing Plasmacluster, it is possible to get both positive and negative ions reacting with the particles suspended in the air, in particular with viruses and bacteria.
A representative of Sharp company announced that the research proves the fact that the technology inactivates viruses and bacteria. Representatives of the company promised to present more detailed information till the end of this year.
According to John Oxford from the Medical and stomatological school of Barts and London, the statement of microbiologists of Sharp company is believable. Influenza virus is more easily inactivated than many others because it’s rather delicate virus, said the scientist. In his opinion, such system would find its application in hospitals where patients are waiting for reception or in aircraft. However, Elizabeth McCruden, virologist from Glazgo University, warned that pathogens of virus infections are present in the air in the form of tiny drops: “The air-conditioning system can work well together with viruses obtained from cellular culture but a virus can be not inactivated in the same form in which it is usually transported.”.
According to statements of the representatives of Sharp company, their cleansing system allows to get rid of 99% of such pathogens as virus of influenza, Koksaki or methicillin - resistant goldish staphylococcus. According to Kitasoto University researchers in Japan, it is achieved due to the fact that ions destroy proteins from the virus surface and do not let it multiply.
So far such air-conditioners are sold only in Japan. Initially they have been created to suppress funguses, mould and molecules producing unpleasant smells. Now it turned out that they can do much more.

December 26 - Ozone hole can disappear by 2050. The hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica is about to start decrease and can finally disappear by 2050. Australian scientists state referring to the data of recent observations that content of chlorine in the atmosphere (and it is one of the main reasons of destruction of ozone layer) is decreasing. It is one of the first global achievements in the fight for ecology improving on the Earth, and it became possible thanks to the fact that in 1987 there was prohibited to use chlorfluorocarbon in refrigerators and air-conditioners. Paul Freizer, chief specialist in the sphere of the atmosphere research from Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation underlines: “It’s a good news. We’ve been waiting for it long. We think that at present this tendency is irreversible. It is very important”. According to Freizer, after the prohibition the level of chlorine in the atmosphere was increasing and reached its peak in 2000.

December 24 - The first tests according to the Kyoto agreement will take place in Karelia, Leningrad, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions. The first tests of the Kyoto mechanisms will be realized on the North-West of Russia. There has been taken a decision to speed up formation of the ground for international co-operation to test mechanisms of realisation of the Kyoto agreement. The corresponding memorandum about mutual understanding between the governments of countries of the Baltic region is about to be signed at the end of the current year. The decision about the ground creation was taken in 1999 by energy ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden during the Helsinki conference on co-operation in the Baltic region. Implementation of such projects is very important for the Russian Federation from the point of view of attraction investment into modernization of power sector, namely, into the projects of energy supply and using of non-traditional energy sources. The first projects of tests of the Kyoto mechanisms will be realised in Karelia, Leningrad, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions. It is expected that the Northern ecological financial corporation (NEFCO) will be an investor.

December 20 - This year “Altaychimprom” joint-stock company has an intention to start production of chladones. In the middle of 90 - ies chladones produced by the enterprise have been recognized as ozone-destroying and their production has been closed. At present ACP JSC returns back to these products but this time to the kinds which are considered to be ecologically safe. On the plant there is planned to produce chladones of three types.
141B chladone is intended for using as a component of mix heat carrier for air-conditioners and heat pumps, aerosol propellent, porophore for obtaining foamed plastic, just as a dissolvent, inhalation anesthetic for animals.
142b chladone is used as a refrigerant, dissolvent, porophore for obraining foamed plastic, basic material for organofluoric synthesis.
143a chladone is used in one-stage low-temperature refrigerating machines and in blend with other ozone-safe refrigerants, as a basic material in the industry of organic synthesis. Now at the plant production mounting is taking place. Insufficient equipment is dismantled from idle enterprise premises.

December 19 - Russia is ready to ratify the Kyoto protocol. The prime -minister Michael Kasyanov announced about Russia’s readiness to ratify the Kyoto protocol. According to the information agnecy “News”, this statement was made by the Russian prime-minister during the World summit on stable development in Johanessburg. Michael Kasyanov notified also that in autumn of 2003, by the initiative of President of RF Vladimir Putin, in Moscow there will be held the World conference on the issues of climate changes.

December 16 - In Great Britain there has been detected the bacteria causing “legionary decease”. The bacteria causing fatal illness “legionary decease” has been discovered on the enterprise in Cambria county on the North-West of Great Britain.
According to ITAR-TASS, more than 200 employees of the company producing assembles made of aluminum for Airbus aircraft have been notified that in case of high temperature or cough, they have to consult immediately a physician.
Air-conditioning system of production premises where “legionella” bacteria has been discovered, has been exposed to sanitary treatment with the use of chlorine - containing compounds.

December 13 - Air-conditioners infects with “legionary decease”. Serious infective episode, the so-called “legionary decease” detected in a small British town, attracted attention of sanitary physicians of Moscow. Legionellosis is a man-caused infection, its bacteria are nestles in water accumulated in the systems of centralized air-conditioning. Mass infections occur after microorganism concentration overcomes a certain threshold. That’s why, physicians now prepare methodical recommendations - how, when and who can clean air-conditioners. Disinfection will be performed by juridical persons, private entrepreneurs themselves: it will be their obligation, and they will be bear administrative and criminal responsibility.
Specialists state that domestic air-conditioners of the last generation can be dangerous only because one can catch pneumonia under them. The virus of very dangerous but not studied yet “legionary decease” occurs in big industrial air-conditioners installed on the production, in large trading centers and offices.
According to air-conditioner servicing manager Maxim Ivanov, all the words said to the address of “legionary decease” are related only to big industrial systems where condensate is accumulated in one place and is not emptied for a long time. As a rule, it refers only to those systems which are wrongly operated, that is, condensate bleeds are not regularly cleaned.
Most likely, managers of big capital enterprises will have to pay special attention to their technical economy. If it turns out that their air-conditioning systems are not in a proper state, their owners can have serious problems from the side of sanitary service. However, so far there is no precise information about the number of industrial air-conditioners in Moscow. That’s why, physicians have not defined yet when they will start monitoring enterprises and offices.

December 11 - In China the prices on the basic materials for the production of air-conditioners are risen. According to China Business Time, prices for a steel sheet used in production of bodies and other components of air-conditioners, have risen since March of 2002 approximately by 30% and made up 4000 yuans per e ton. Observers think that the price growth for other raw materials used in the production of air-conditioners is about to happen. Such growth can cause serious consequences for some equipment producers because general price level for the final product is reduced.

December 9 - At the beginning of November the First Dealers’ Congress Mitsubishi Heavy took place in Russia. On the Congress there were present 180 climatic companies from all the regions of Russia and from short abroad.
From the side of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Europe, Ltd.there were present Mr. Hirokazu Kanamori (general manager MHI, London), Mr. Yuji Ito (sales and logistics manager MHI, London), Mr. Takehiko Kikuchi (responsible manager MHI, Nagoya, Japan), who presented to guests reports on financial figures of MHI holding, in particular, of the air-conditioning direction and on positions of MHI on the market of air-conditioning systems in the world. To the attention of participants of the Congress in Russia there was introduced a new model range of air -conditioners Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
The organizer of the First Dealers’ Congress on Mitsubishi Heavy air-conditioners in Russia was “Biokond” company.

December 6 - Gree is rapidly expanding its exports while attaining favorable results in the domestic market in China. Its exports to the US market in the period from January to July this year showed 20% increase over the same period a year ago. Its moveable ACs for the US market became a hit product.
